The Paul Guest Prize is a non-acquisitive cash prize of $10,000 which will be held every two years, highlighting contemporary drawing practice in Australia. The Prize was initiated by former Family Court Judge and Olympic rower, the Honourable Paul Guest QC and encourages artists from across Australia to engage with the important medium of drawing and to create challenging and unique art works.

 Big Draw Bendigo

Think you can’t draw? Well think again! Coinciding with the Paul Guest Prize the Gallery invites you to come and draw. To get you warmed up, start with your fingerprint and add some lines. Then join some other free workshops including Body and Bones, and Musical Draw. For adults work on an easel in the Sculpture Annex and draw Eve and her friends. Artist run workshops will also be on offer for both children and adults (contact the Gallery for more details).

Colour and decorate your very own cardboard money box using metallic pens, buttons, crayons, coloured matchsticks and paper. Afterwards write a list of all the ways you could earn some pocket money to get your box full by Christmas.

For 4 to 7 year olds, all students participating in these workshops must be accompanied by an adult.

This workshop begins with looking at drawings in the Paul Guest Prize. From these drawings students will find inspiration to then create their own drawings of weird and wonderful faces. Using a range of art materials such as crayons, pens, coloured paper and more, the focus of the workshop will be on experimenting with new ways of approaching mark making and colour.

For 4 to 7 year olds, all students participating in these workshops must be accompanied by an adult.

After viewing some animal themed artworks in Bendigo Art Gallery students will walk across the road to La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre. Here students will design their own fantasy animal and then complete a series of black and white mono-prints. Once the prints are dry students will have the opportunity to further enhance their prints by adding colour and a landscape for their animal.

Meet for this workshop at Bendigo Art Gallery. We will then walk together over to
La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre (opposite the Gallery).

Please bring an art smock
