Bendigo Pottery Majolica 1879 – 1911
A Bundoora Homestead Art Centre touring exhibition
6 March – 9 May
Bendigo Pottery is one of Australia’s best known potteries but an aspect of its history has been neglected. Majolica wares were popular in Western Europe in the late 19th century. It was produced by a few Australian colonial potteries. However the finest quality and quantity were produced by the Bendigo Pottery from 1879 to 1911. Bendigo Pottery regularly won medals and certificates for its pottery internationally. This exhibition will trace the range of majolica wares that emerged from Bendigo pottery. It will include works from public and private collections revealing some extremely rare examples.
