This is an exhibition of recent paintings and work on paper by Bendigo artist Stephen Turpie. Turpie’s work is concerned with an investigation of space and the ways in which spaces are created through framing devices.
Turpie notes: 'These new works remind me of some sort of primeval environment, where objects are not fixed, where the space between things have an awkward resonance. The paintings are like a slice in time. Layers of material are built up conventionally, in the most old-fashioned of ways and are subverted at the surface.'
