28 April - 27 May 2007
Opening on 28 April is Reading Between the Lines, an exhibition of work by British fibre artist Ruth Lee. Supported by Cumbria Institute of the Arts, United Kingdom, and the Arts Council, England, this exhibition is exclusive to Bendigo Art Gallery.
The exhibition brings together more than 20 of Ruth Lee’s recent works. Adopting traditional techniques such as knitting, screen printing and stitching alongside more experimental materials and processes, Lee explores ideas of growth and decay, notions of protection and the marking of time. The works, often resembling dresses, shoes and accessories, are evocative and sensual, flickering between the familiar and the obscure.
Through her multidisciplinary approach, Lee takes traditional craft skills and incorporates these into a challenging and relevant working method within her contemporary fibre arts practice.
Supported by Cumbria Institute of the Arts, United Kingdom, and the Arts Council, England.
