STILL LIFE PAINTING: CHRISTOPHER BEAUMONT
13 May - 18 June 2006
Still Life Painting brings to Bendigo Art Gallery an exhibition of recent paintings by Melbourne based artist, Christopher Beaumont. Voted the People’s Choice winner of the 2005 Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize, Beaumont was awarded the opportunity to present a solo exhibition at Bendigo Art Gallery.
Beaumont discovered his passion for painting still life in the final year of art school and has pursued this branch of painting consistently since then. “Still Life is the Particle Accelerator of painting where the artist gets to examine reality itself.” says the artist. His exquisite still life works are a testament to his passion for the meticulous glowing still-lifes by 17th Century Spanish Masters. These still-life works are arranged on geometrical principles, and the most alluring quality of the work is its deceptive simplicity. Humble objects become beautiful and precious and create for the viewer a moment of stillness and contemplation. Christopher Beaumont’s work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria and many major corporate collections, and he was twice selected for the prestigious Moet and Chandon touring exhibition.
